No load shedding expected after Kendal fire - Eskom
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Eskom says two units of the Kendal Power Station that were shut down following a weekend blaze will be up and running again soon.
Unit 1's generator transformer caught fire early on Saturday morning at the plant in Mpumalanga.
The utility says this led to units 2 and 3 being shut down after experiencing loss of vacuum.
Spokesperson Sikhonathi Mantshantsha says the two units will return to service early this week.
He says Unit 1 will only return in November.
"While Eskom will be forced to increase diesel consumption, we do not anticipate that any load shedding will be implemented as a result of the incident.
"We urge members of the public to continue using electricity sparingly to assist the country.
"Eskom will keep the public informed should there be any significant change in the power system."
