No load shedding for now, but Eskom sends a warning
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Eskom says while it currently doesn’t
anticipate the need to implement load shedding, the public needs to
reduce the amount of electricity being used.
“The power system is under severe pressure due to a number of generating unit breakdowns, which will necessitate an increased utilisation of emergency generation reserves,” says spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
Eskom has not had to resort to rolling blackouts since July.
“While Eskom expects a number of generating units to return to service from breakdowns during the course of the next few days, we urge the public to reduce the usage and to continue using electricity sparingly to assist in avoiding load shedding,” says Mantshantsha.
