No load shedding on Saturday, says Eskom
Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Eskom says there is a low probability of load shedding on Saturday as a result of several generating units being returned to service.
Three trade unions, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and Solidarity, are locked in a wage dispute with Eskom.
The dispute led to wildcat strikes at several of Eskom’s power stations which affected the delivery of coal.
Eskom also experienced technical issues at some of its power stations.
No wage agreement has been reached.
The unions rejected the power utility's revised wage offer of a 4.7% increase, while at the same time lowering their demand from 15 to 9%.
The parties are set to resume negotiations on Wednesday.
In a statement, Eskom says residents and businesses are encouraged to use electricity sparingly by switching off geysers during the day especially during peak periods as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances.
