No major incidents in Gauteng amid persistent rain, strong winds

Emergency services in Gauteng have not recorded any major incidents amid the persistent rain and strong winds.

Parts of the province flooded over the weekend due to the bad weather.
The roof of a petrol station caved in on three vehicles where two men sustained only minor injuries.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso says Mamelodi is not out of the woods just yet.
“Overnight we haven’t received any calls of damage but with the continuation of the rain, we continue to monitor various low-water bridges,” says Mabaso.
“What I would like to warn the resident about is the Mamelodi Stoffel Park bridge. Upon our assessments earlier today, we got an indication that the bridge is 100% full but is not yet overflowing so I would like to caution residents around Mamelodi.
“They must be extremely vigilant or find alternative routes to avoid crossing that bridge,” he adds.

Motorists urged to be cautious as rain batters Gauteng
Heavy and persistent rain has been falling over Gauteng since Friday. "The heavy rainfall has led to many major routes being flooded, inaccessible and unsafe to drive through," says spokesperson Sello Maremane. "The rain has also led to the destruction of properties and vehicles, notably in Sharpeville, in the Sedibeng district where a roof of a filling station collapsed."
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi also urged residents and motorists across the province to take caution when approaching low lying areas.
“No major incidents were reported through the City of Johannesburg overnight due to the wet weather conditions.
“However, we want to encourage our residents especially our residents in low lying areas to make sure that they stay away from river streams. Motorists are encouraged to maintain a safe following distance, be cautious on the road and try to avoid areas which might be flooded,” Mulaudzi says.
All emergency services will remain on high alert.
