No more intense cold snaps expected - SAWS

The South African Weather Service has confirmed that the worst Winter cold snaps are a thing of the past as the country moves into Spring.

Cool summer weather

Some parts of the country have seen the mercury rising quickly, while others have remained cooler.

Central provinces have been having temperatures reaching as high as 30 degrees Celsius.

Forecaster Venetia Phakula says although winter hasn't passed, cooler temperatures are still expected.

"We are not expecting more cold fronts, but we are still seeing more cold fronts passing through, but these cold fronts so far are not as intense as the ones we have experienced during winter, so we see them slipping South of the country or just brushing over the country."

Phakula says cooler temperatures are expected on Sunday.

"There has been a bit of improvement, a warm-up in temperatures as we move towards the end of the week. The trick is by Sunday, another cold front is coming. There is a push of cool air that is coming through, and we see those 30 degrees Celsius dropping to between 23 and 26 degrees in places.

"That cooling of temperatures might have people thinking that winter is not over yet, but the drop in temperatures is not significant as that we used to see during our winter period. We will see days where temperatures are dropping but are not dropping significantly to those winter temperatures that were very cold."
