No need for load shedding this weekend, says Eskom

Power utility Eskom does not see a need to implement load shedding over the coming weekend.
Eskom CEO André de Ruyter briefed the media on the status of the power grid.
The latest bout of rolling blackouts were suspended at 5 am on Friday.
"We have a number of units that are at high risk this morning. Duvha 1, which has still that high pressure heater leak that we referred to yesterday, that's about 575 megawatts at risk and a boiler tube leak at Kriel about 120 megawatts. So all in all just under 900 megawatts at risk.
"But our dams are still looking very good, so we have utilised our overnight excess generation capacity to augment our damns and our diesel capacity is looking solid. So at this point in time, the outlook for the weekend is good, we don't see any prospects for load shedding over the weekend.”
Eskom said despite the risk, the outlook is also positive for next week.
"The prognosis for next week looks good, we have a number of units coming back as planned. I can give the assurance that our power station managers are working very hard to bring back those megawatts that are out of service, but of course, there are challenges that remain.”
