The Department of Public Service and Administration says it will be no work, no pay for any public servant who joins the national shutdown march on Wednesday.
Thousands of workers are expected to down tools in support of the march by Cosatu and Saftu against the cost of living and the ongoing load shedding crisis.
The department’s spokesperson Moses Mushi says government departments have been provided with guidelines to manage those public servants who will be participating in the march.
"The DPSA cautions that while protest actions are protected by the Labour Relations Act, those employees who fall within the essential services are prohibited from participating in these protests during working hours.
"The principle of no work no pay will apply for absence for a full day as well as part of a working day. In addition, Leave will be strictly managed, and no Leave will be granted unless under extreme and compelling situations."
