Spokesperson Brian Setswambung says work on the statue will commence as soon as supply chain processes are completed.

"If everything goes well, we anticipate work on the statue to be complete by June. The decision to construct the statue was noted in 2014 and plans begun late in 2016," says Setswambung.

Setswambung confirmed that a tender bid has been advertised for the R6 million project.

DA leader in the North West Joe McGluwa says they will do everything in their power to stop the erection of someone who has broken his oath of office.

"We are afraid that people will break that statue down. This is someone who has broken Parliament and this country and still has more than 700 charges to face in court," says McGluwa.

The EFF's North West Chairperson Betty Diale says they are receiving legal advice as they want to take the matter to court.

"Should we not succeed the legal way, we will in fact make sure it is either not erected or we will remove it as the EFF," says Diale.

People took to Twitter to share their opinions of the statue.
