North West farmer killed in robbery
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
North West police are investigating a case of murder after a farmer and his wife were attacked on their farm in Wolmaransstad on Sunday evening.
Police say the farmer (67) and his 66-year-old wife, who sell sheep, were attacked by a gang of five suspects who pretended to be interested in buying livestock.
Police spokesperson Adele Myburgh says the three men and two women overpowered the couple in a kraal on the farm and tied them up.
"The wife was taken into the house where she was assaulted, they demanded the safe key and took it from her,” says Myburgh.
The suspects stabbed the man to death while beaten the wife over the head with a gun.
She is recovering in hospital.
Myburgh says the police were notified by the couple's 43-year-old son, who saw the suspects fleeing on foot.
"During the robbery, an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen and the farmer's firearms were stolen."
No arrests have been made.
