The Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) of Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs in the North West, Gordon Kegakilwe, has succumbed to a Covid-19 illness.
The office of the North West Premier says Kegakilwe died as a result of a cardiac arrest while he was rushed to a medical facility in Klerksdorp.
Kegakilwe was initially treated at the Vryburg Private Hospital as a result of Covid-19 pneumonia and immediately put on oxygen.
A decision was then taken on Monday to transport him to Klerksdorp in an ambulance.

“He suffered a cardiac arrest and despite all efforts by the medical personnel he succumbed and lost his life,” says Vuyisile Ngesi from the office of the North West Premier.
Premier Jacob Mokgoro has sent his condolences to the Kegakilwe family and described the late leader as one of the “finest to have ever come out of the African National Congress.”
The ANC in the North West also expressed its shock at the passing of Kegakilwe.
NW ANC Chief Whip, Paul Sebegoe, says the province is poorer without Kegakilwe’s leadership.
