Residents of Rustenburg, North West, have been warned to take extra precautions over the next few days, following extensive flooding in several parts of the province, disaster management said on Thursday.
"We urge residents not to take for granted any running water, whether it is a river, running water, or storm water on roads," the department said.
"Please check your roofing and ensure there are no leaks or damages... do not leave children unattended playing outside or left wandering outside near open water, near river banks etc..."
Areas affected by flooding included Freedom Park, Marikana West, Erasmus Farm, Tlhabane, Ramochana, Ikageng, Freedom Park Phase Two, Lethabong, Lekgalong, and surrounding areas.
A brief stint of sunny weather was expected over the weekend, the department said.
Clear whether was expected on Saturday and Sunday. Thunderstorms and rain were expected from Monday to Thursday.
