Northern Cape Premier says he can buy his own fruit
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Newly appointed Northern Cape Premier, Zamani Saul, has made another call for an end to wasteful expenditure in his provincial government.
Saul delivered the opening address at the African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting in Kimberly on Tuesday.
The provincial two-day Lekgotla started on Monday.
Saul has also lamented the daily buying of fresh fruit for him when he arrives at the office every morning.
"It is a wastage, and if I want fresh fruits, I will go buy them myself. Nobody should be going around buying fresh fruits [because] the premier will be in the office," says Saul.

Saul has also criticised the booking of expensive accommodation when he travels outside the province on official government trips.
"When I go to Joburg, I sleep in a hotel of R5000 a night, and we treat that as normal… You sleep for two nights, and it comes to R10000, those things should come to an end."
Saul made headlines last month when he announced that his MECs will not receive new vehicles and that the money will rather be used to purchase 29 new state ambulances.
