The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the life sentence handed down to 29-year-old Aubrey Manaka for the rape and murder of Precious Ramabulana.
The 21-year-old TVET College student was found stabbed to death in her room in an off-campus residence in Mokmene in November 2019.
Manaka was subsequently arrested at his parental home in Botlokwa in November 2019
He was also sentenced to eight years for housebreaking with intent to rape and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances after he pleaded guilty to all four counts.
Spokesperson for the NPA in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi- Dzhangi says Manaka says Manaka pleaded guilty to the crimes.
"It was love at first sight when he saw her dancing with her friend in the veranda. He then decided to go and watch soccer and drink few bottles of alcohol.
“He said he later came back in early hours of the morning and knocked to the door of Precious room. She was afraid to open the door, he alleged. Manaka then decided to forcefully open the window and gained entrance afterwhich there was wrestling between the two.
“It is at this point that he decided to stab her, several times on her body with a knife before raping her and further stabbed her several times after raping her.
"Manaka told the court that continued to rape her while she was bleeding profusely and further stabbed her several times so that she could die and not identify him.”
