NSFAS calls on learners to apply for financial aid before deadline
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
Students and matrics have 30 days left to apply for financial aid from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) for 2017, before the application period closes.
Management briefed media this morning where they appealed to teachers, parents and learners to submit their applications before 30 November.
NSFAS opened the centralised applications in August, which is aimed at improving access and providing affordable undergraduate education.
So far, more than 195 000 people have successfully registered and created accounts.
Applicants can submit forms online in 15 minutes or less.
NSFAS CEO Msulwa Daca gave the assurance that manual applications will still be accepted.
"We have taken the decision that as we slowly introduce the online system, we are not going to do away with the manual application form. As much as online application is easier administratively, we are also aware of the challenges that are faced by learners who come mainly from schools that are in the rural areas and schools in townships who might not have access to sufficient connectivity," says Daca.
