WSU Spokeswomen Yonela Tukwayo says the university has requested forensic investigators to get involved.
Tukwayo says a third party (service provider) is responsible for loading money to students on a monthly basis.
The financial aid scheme's Kagisho Mamabolo says they have written to the university to explain and establish the facts of the matter.
"NSFAS would like to understand how this occurred and what the university's plan is to correct this. The university is responsible for making these payments to the student," Mamabolo said.
