NTA: Taxis given green light to travel between provinces
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The National Taxi Alliance (NTA) says the government has given the green light for taxis to travel between provinces - but only at 70% capacity.

All interprovincial travel has been banned since the start of the Covid-19 lockdown towards the end of March.
But NTA spokesperson Theo Malele says the taxi industry will be allowed to resume interprovincial travel with immediate effect.
“Government has allowed interprovincial to resume immediately but in terms of the current regulations, loading 70% capacity.”
“Cross-border has been ruled inadmissible until Covid-19 level 1.”
The NTA is still in the process of thrashing out its differences with the government around the issues of 100% loading capacity and the sector’s relief fund.

The industry is due to hold a series of meetings with the government over the coming weekend.
“Experts have sent a letter of protest to the National Coronavirus Command Council against 100% loading capacity,” says Malele.
“Three meetings have been arranged between today and Sunday between experts and the NTA leadership, Minister of Transport (Fikile Mbalula) and Minister of Health (Zweli Mkhize).”
The command council is due to make a decision by the end of the weekend.
