Nuclear implementation fast approaching
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Energy Minister, David Mahlobo, says cabinet's approval of nuclear energy still stands and he will soon consult the rest of the stakeholders.

Mahlobo addressed media on the sidelines on the third day of the 54th ANC National Conference.
Government's approval of a mixed energy policy has sparked outrage from economists and environmentalist but Mahlobo says the criticisms against uranium have been noted.

"I have concluded my engagement with cabinet and they have agreed that a mix energy policy remains our position. No option is however more important than the other. We note the economic meltdown but in terms of the implementation of the mixed energy policy various factors will be taken into account," says Mahlobo.
Mahlobo has been hammered over reports that he is dealing between Russia and South African for the procurement of nuclear energy. He has rejected these claims.

"We have the view that energy must stimulate the economy and not the other way around where the economy must stimulate energy. Implementation will be based on the pace, scale and affordability but also environmental responsibility."
