It's been a decade since police gunned down 34 striking workers at the Lonmin mine in North West.

Another 10 people, including police officers and security guards, were killed in the days before August the 16th.

In a statement on Tuesday, NUM said they would like to see an immediate implementation of the Social Labour Plans that would directly address the issue of housing and local economic development.

The union’s Luphert Chilwane says all victims need to find closure.

"We are saying that we need all the victims to find closure it's been a long time, we are talking about an incident that happened in 2012. Now it's 10 years later and still there is no closure.

"We are now observing the pains that the victim is experiencing and we should be helping them find closure."

Chilwane adds that the government needs to raise money to compensate the victims

"We are saying the government should make sure that they raise the money as they had made a commitment to pay the victims and it should be up to them where they will seek that money."
