Talks between the power utility and three unions resumed in Johannesburg on Friday but no agreement has yet been reached.

The union's Livhuwani Mamburu says they cannot take the offer to their members since Eskom rejected their demand for more benefits.

"They also rejected benefits like housing allowance which we are demanding and also the bonus," Mamburu says.

He says the three unions are in a meeting to decide on the way forward.

This comes after weeks of wage negotiations between the power utility and three unions, Solidarity, NUM and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa).

Initially, Eskom said there would be no wage increase this year due to its precarious financial position, which sparked wildcat strikes at some Eskom power stations - forcing the power utility to implement load shedding.

Unions are demanding a 9% wage increase for 2018, an 8.6% increase for the second year and an 8.5% increase for 2020.

Eskom's latest offer is 6.7%  for 2018, 6 % for 2019 and 2020.

Eskom has refused to comment while talks are ongoing.
