The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) rejects with contempt the lies spread by NUMSA shopstewards at their meeting yesterday where they alleged that the NUM has signed a 5,6% wage increment with the parastatal and that the NUM has made a written commitment to the employer to never strike.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) rejects with contempt the lies spread by NUMSA shopstewards at their meeting yesterday where they alleged that the NUM has signed a 5,6% wage increment with the parastatal and that the NUM has made a written commitment to the employer to never strike.
As a union we reject these as pure falsehood and a desperation by our sister union to cause havoc within the ranks of our union and the federation at large. These flies against the principles of COSATU as a federation enshrined first in its preamble of unifying industrial trade unions and that of worker solidarity. These further undermines the federation ‘s objective of encouraging cooperation amongst affiliates.
The NUM puts it on record that there is no agreement between itself and Eskom. The Eskom wage dispute has been referred to the CCMA by the employer which the NUM takes
exception of.
The NUM has on a number of occasions shown its displeasure with Eskom ‘s approach to industrial relations as well as its proposal for a five year deal. We totally reject Eskom ‘s posture together with NUMSA ‘s unfounded allegations and lies.
