NUM workers to return to Impala after agreement
Updated | By ANA
Impala Platinum and the National Union of Mineworkers have finally reached an agreement after a two-year impasse, the Department of Mineral Resources said on Friday.
Minster of Mineral Resources Mosebenzi Zwane said the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding late on Thursday afternoon.
This agreement, which pertained to the Rustenburg strikes in 2012 would see dismissed workers “returning to their employment and being reintegrated back into the workforce,” said Zwane.
Zwane thanked all involved, including the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration and the South African Police Service, in this “onerous process”.
“We are encouraged that the parties were able to find each other after what has been over two years of challenging negotiations between them. This agreement serves as testament to the value of continuous engagement in the interest of all concerned,” said Zwane.
He said the agreement was in line with the Framework Agreement for A Sustainable Mining Industry. - ANA
