The expulsion was put to vote after the Food and Allied Workers Union (Fawu) objected to the congress accepting the expulsion.

Fawu wanted Numsa to be reinstated. However, when the matter was put to the vote Fawu lost by a wide margin.

The votes in favour of Numsa’s expulsion were 904 and only 67 against the move. The vote was conducted by show of hands.

Numsa was expelled in November last year after it took a decision at its special national congress to not support the ANC or any political party in the 2014 election and to expand its scope of operation. - ANA
