"It was postponed to December 12 in the same court," said Major Thulani Zwane.

The 27-year-old man was arrested on Friday.

Three National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) shop stewards --Njabulo Dube, Sibonelo Ntuli and Ntobeko Maphumulo -- were shot dead in Sundumbili on August 6. A fourth person was shot and wounded and was taken to hospital.

"Another two victims escaped unharmed. [The] motive for their attack is still unknown," said Zwane.

At the time, Colonel Jay Naicker said the shop stewards had been on their way back from a union meeting in Durban, but he could not say whether the attack was union-related.

On Monday, Zwane said the motive for the murders was still not known.
