Numsa: Workers paying the price for ANC theft
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) believes workers at the South African Airways (SAA) and South African Express are paying the price “for the stealing of the ANC government”.
Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola made the comments during a picket outside SAA offices in Kempton Park on Friday.
The union is demanding government make funding available for the restructuring of the airline.

“The only people who are suffering as SAA collapses, as SA Express collapses, as Denel collapses, as Eskom collapses are workers and their families. Workers and their families are paying the price for the looting of the African National Congress (ANC) government.
“Workers and their families are paying the ultimate price for the stealing of the ANC government.”
SAA has been in business rescue since December.
The business rescue plan was approved in July but up until now government has not been able to come up with the necessary funding to settle outstanding obligations and restart operations..
Government subsequently committed R10.5 billion to restructure the airline at a creditors meeting on Friday.
