The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has found Samuel Modise guilty of animal cruelty after he buried the animal alive in a shallow grave.
Please note the following story contains descriptions of animal cruelty and might upset sensitive readers
The case stemmed from an incident in 2020 when the NSPCA was called to Molorwe village in North West to investigate a case of animal cruelty.
It says Modise admitted to violently beating his neighbour's dog with a spade and a brick for attacking his goat.
He also buried the animal alive in a shallow grave.
NSPCA spokesperson Keshvi Nair says the animal was severely beaten.
"Samuel had beaten her so badly that one of her eyes had opened out of its socket, it was absolutely horrendous. I think apart of all the brutality that was inflicted on this animal, I think the worse thing here was the fact that the dog was still alive. Samuel knew that this dog was still alive and he buried her alive and he didn't care that she would suffer.
“He attempted to conceal the body from its inspectors, but with the assistance of the police they found the site where he had buried her in a bush behind his property.”
