A 51-year-old man has appeared at the Brits Magistrate’s Court on charges of kidnapping and the murder of a seven-year-old girl.

It’s alleged the girl was attacked a week ago by Benjamin Mokone, her mother’s ex-lover.
According the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), a taxi dropped the girl off at Letlhabile Mall after school on the fateful day.
Mokone approached the child, luring her to bushes in the area where he killed her.
Later in the afternoon when the child failed to return home from school, the mother reported her missing at a local police station.
“The police went to the spot where the child is usually dropped off at the mall,” says regional NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
“Fortunately, opposite the drop-off spot there is a shop with CCTV cameras which captured the incident. Mokone was called to the police station and charged with kidnapping.”
She adds Mokone confessed to the crime and led law enforcement to the child’s body.
Her lifeless body was found half naked with injuries on the head.
The matter was postponed to Friday for attorney instructions.
