NW police captain behind bars for diesel theft

A North West police captain, who has been arrested for allegedly stealing diesel from a state vehicle, will apply for bail in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old Juan Oosthuizen was arrested for allegedly siphoning diesel from a police vehicle.
North West police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says in a statement that Oosthuizen appeared in court on Thursday 9 February facing a charge of theft.
The case against him was postponed to 15 February for a formal bail application.

"The captain, from the Brits' visible policing unit, was allegedly caught on Saturday, 4 February 2023, draining diesel out of the tank of a parked state vehicle,” said Mokgwabone.
"Consequent to investigation by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU), the member was arrested on Wednesday 8 February 2023.”
North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, commended the ACIU members for putting behind bars "unethical employees who tarnish the image of the police".
