Nwest Plats Quiet

Calm prevailed at platinum producer Lonmin in the North West on Friday despite Amcu's vow to continue the wage strike by its members, the mine said.

"No incidents of violence and intimidation were reported," said spokeswoman Lerato Molebatsi.
The mine had received information that it was quiet at the mine overnight.
She said the turnout of miner workers increased every day.
"We don't have the numbers at the moment but we will communicate that information once it is available."
It was also quiet and calm at Impala Platinum with no reported incidents.
"No incidents were reported. Unlike Lonmin, our operations remain closed," said spokeswoman Alice Lourens.
Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) was not immediately available for comment.
Earlier, North West police said it was quiet in Marikana.
"The situation is calm and nothing has called for police attention," said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.
Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) members at Lonmin, Amplats, and Implats in Rustenburg and Northam in Limpopo downed tools on January 23 demanding a basic salary of R12,500 per month.
They have rejected the companies' offer of 10 percent that will see them earning a minimum of R12,500 by 2017.
Lonmin set May 14 as the date for employees to return to their posts after its sms survey indicated that more than 60 percent of workers wanted to return to work.
Amcu leaders have vowed to persist with the marathon strike as an undisclosed number of union members started to return to work on Wednesday.
About 5000 defiant mineworkers gathered at the Wonderkop Stadium at Marikana on Wednesday, refusing to return to work.
