Newly appointed North West premier Supra Mahumapelo on Friday congratulated his predecessor Thandi Modise on her appointment as NCOP chairwoman.

"Former premier Thandi Modise's exceptional performance in governance... gives us confidence that she will continue to serve the country and provinces with utmost distinction in her new role," Mahumapelo said in a statement.
"Her success is our success and our success will be her success as we will be accelerating service delivery building on the solid foundation she has laid."
Mahumapelo nominated Modise to be elected the National Council of Provinces chair.
She was elected unopposed in Parliament on Thursday. Raseriti Tau was elected to be her deputy, also unopposed.
