Four people have been arrested in Gauteng in connection with a hijacked cargo truck at Aeroton business premises in Johannesburg.
Police arrived at the scene to find a black bakkie parked with 23 big bags stacked in it.
Cocaine with an estimated street value of R200 million was found inside the bags.
The driver of the bakkie, a State vehicle, was identified as an officer attached to Zonkezizwe Police Station.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili says the man was arrested together with his three accomplices - another police officer attached to National Investigative Unit, a Gauteng chief traffic officer and a civilian.
“Police seized 552 bricks of cocaine, four vehicles, a grey BMW including three State vehicles as well as R60 000 in cash.”
Muridili adds the cargo truck traveling from Durban Harbour was followed by the suspects’ vehicles from the N3 near Leondale to its destination at the Aeroton warehouse.
“At the warehouse, suspects removed the consignment from the truck and loaded into the bakkie. On duty police officials intercepted the suspects’ vehicle as they were about to flee the scene.”
The suspects are expected to appear in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
