Officials gather for high level Vuwani meeting in Polokwane
Updated | By Maidi Monareng
The Ministers of State Security and Co-operative Governance as well as the Deputy Minister of Police have gathered in Polokwane to meet with traditional leaders on Tuesday to discuss the recent unrest in Vuwani.
The meeting is a continuation of previous meetings, aimed at resolving the matter in Vuwani where more than 20 schools were torched.
The protest stricken area was shut down last week, following a court decision to dismiss the case by Vuwani residents against the Municipal Demarcation Board, which decided to amalgamate the Vuwani area with Malamulele under one municipality.
Chief Mbangiseni Masia said they were confident that a decision would be made in Vuwani's favour.
"We think government and other stakeholders will be acting within the spirit of the discussions between the King and the president," Masia said.
Masia said the discussions were not just about stability.
"Stability is important, but we can't commit it to the issues that have been raised."
