Old Mutual drops MacG for transphobic comments on podcast
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Old Mutual has severed ties with controversial podcaster and former radio host Macgyver “MacG” Mukwevho for his offensive comments on transgender women.
During a chat on his podcast Podcast and Chill with MacG, the host and radio personality Sol Phenduka were talking about their "confusion" about members of the LGBTQI+ community.
"You are going to have a sex change just to be with women? Now she's lesbian. Why can't you just be a man and be with a woman?" asked Sol.
"So a trans woman, a woman with a d*ck".

The utterances set Twitter ablaze with the queer community accusing the pair of being transphobic.

Since then Old Mutual, one of the MacG's sponsors, put a statement saying they have terminated the contract.
The insurance company said the comments were both "ignorant and insensitive".
"Showing that much education needs to happen, especially in a country where people continue to ostracised, abused, killed and rape for being who they are," the company said.

The hosts have not yet responded to any of the backlash.
Many are still calling for Youtube, Spotify and other sponsors of the podcast to also terminate their contracts.
