One confirmed death due to weekend rain, floods - Zikalala

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says by Monday there was only one confirmed death due to the weekend rain and floods.

He says the provincial government has also not received any new reports of missing people.
"We have received one body which could be ascribed to the floods at our Phoenix mortuary.”
The South African Weather Service issued a Red Level 10 alert for parts of the province on Saturday.
It's understood parts of eThekwini received over 266 millimetres of rain.
Over 200 people had to be evacuated from their homes.
Zikalala assessed some of the affected areas on Monday and said while the southern parts of Durban, such as the Bluff, have been affected, the bulk of the damage has been in the north.
The water treatment plant in Umdloti has also been affected.
"The M4, which was already closed due to the previous floods that took place in April, the road got affected and was severely damaged between La Mercy and Seatides and it is impossible to use that road,” Zikalala said.
"We are working to ensure that we fill that gap that was eroded. It might take us another month to have the Umdloti bridge, or the La Mercy bridge fixed and properly repaired."
