One dead, five injured in N12 crash
One person died and five others were injured, one of them critically, in a collision involving two cars and a truck on the N12, about 15km from Fochville in Gauteng, ER24 said on Tuesday.
ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said when paramedics arrived on scene on Monday night they found the cars and truck on the road.
“Two men, believed to be father and son, were trapped in one of the cars. This badly damaged vehicle was found smashed against the truck,” said Bodasing.
“Upon assessment of the front passenger, a man believed to be in his 50’s, it was found that he was in a critical condition. He sustained multiple injuries.”
Bodasig said the driver, believed to be in his 20’s, also sustained multiple injuries. “Sadly there was nothing that paramedics could do for him. He was declared dead.”
Fochville and Potch Fire and Rescue Services used the jaws of life and other rescue tools to extricate the patients with the help of paramedics.
“The patient who was critically injured was treated and transported to hospital. Three other men, from second car, as well as the truck driver, sustained minor injuries,” said Bodasig.
The exact cause of the incident was not immediately known. Authorities were on scene nvestigating.
