One dead in Warden, Free State N3 crash
Updated | By ANA
A man died in a collision between a bakkie and a truck in the Free State on Sunday morning, after which the truck driver appears to have fled, paramedics said.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said Netcare 911 and provincial paramedics responded to a crash at about 5am between Roadside and Warden in the Free State.
Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the crumpled remains of the bakkie had come to rest in the veld several metres from the road. The truck had stopped with the cab on the verge and the trailer obstructing the highway.
“After medics examined that bakkie driver it was found that he had tragically died due to the extensive injuries that he sustained. The truck drive was found to have left the scene and it is unknown if he was injured in the crash,” Botha said.
“Exact detail to the cause of the collision will form part of the South African Police [Service] investigation.”
