One killed after truck ploughs into shoppers

A woman has died after a truck crashed into a group of people at a supermarket in Verulam, north of Durban.

It's understood the vehicle crashed through a fence.
The number of injured people is not yet clear.
KZN EMS spokesperson, Robert Mckenzie, says paramedics treated the injured on scene - before transporting them to a local hospital.
"The exact cause of the crash is not known at this stage and is going to be investigated by police," he says.


Meanwhile, Reaction Unit South Africa's Prem Balram says the truck also crashed into a taxi and car.
Balram says the truck driver attempted to flee the scene, but were accosted by a group of bystanders.
"An angry mob assaulted him severely. Paramedics had to treat him for assault injuries, as well as injuries sustained during the accident."
The area has been cordoned off.
Balram says the woman who was killed was 23-years-old.
She was with her mother at the time of the accident.
"She was walking to a pedestrian gate at the shopping complex, when the truck ploughed through the gate and killed her instantly," he says
A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
Police are investigating.
