Four suspects have been arrested and one killed during a shootout with police in Blairgowrie in Johannesburg.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says the suspects attempted to hijack a vehicle and were spotted in a white Volkswagen Tiguan at around 5:15 am on Friday morning.
Police recovered four unlicensed firearms and a hijacked vehicle.
Masondo explained that police intercepted when the gang tried to hijack a vehicle, leading to the suspects pointing firearms at the police.
Offers then fired back.

"As police were approaching them, the suspects started pointing a firearm at the police and it's then the police shot at them, " says Masondo.
Masondo added the police investigation continues to determine whether the suspects can also be linked to other crimes committed in the Randburg and surrounding areas.
"We are going to find out if we can link them to other crimes committed in the area and to see if these firearms were used in commissions of other crime."
