One killed in Limpopo lightning strike

One person was killed and four others injured after being struck by lightning in Makhushane village in Limpopo.

Spokesperson for the Mopani District, Witness Tiva, says several other families were also left homeless after the lightning damaged 17 houses in the area.
"Several other people were left stranded after their houses were damaged by heavy storm in the Ba-Phalaborwa and Maruleng local municipalities.

“Disaster management teams have been deployed in the affected areas.”
Tiva says the municipality will provide relief to the affected families.
"We are urging residents, especially those who are found in low lying areas to exercise caution as it is continuing to rain in many parts of the province.”
The local Thavhani mall and the University of Venda were also flooded by heavy rains.
University’s spokesperson Takalani Dzaga says cars were also submerged.
"Most of those affected last night were those who attended PSL game between Black Leopards and Wits University.”
Residents - especially those in low lying areas - have been urged to exercise caution as the rain continues to fall.
