Police have arrested two people, one for murder and one for attempted murder. One firearm was also retrieved.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says one other person was injured and taken to hospital.

The situation was calm late on Wednesday afternoon although some foreign shop owners have fled the area.

“It is calm at the moment, we have deployed our members to stabilise the situation, at this stage none of the shops are being looted and some of the foreign shop keepers have moved from the area”

He believes the clashes between foreign shop owners and protesters comes after social media reports that their shops are selling expired food, some of which were branded incorrectly.
