One person linked to two matric exam paper leaks, says Motshekga

Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga says the investigation into the leaked matric exam papers has so far fingered one individual.

Speaking to the media at an event on Tuesday, Motshekga said she received the report on Tuesday morning.
"The report is incomplete, and it is difficult to get to the bottom of the problem. We were informed that there is only one person, an adult who has been linked to the leaks of the paper.
"It was confirmed that two papers did prove positive, the Physics 2 paper and the Mathematics paper. The Physics paper was contained very early. There have been hoaxes that other papers were leaked but when we verify there were not real papers," said Motshekga.
She said the Business Economics paper was also leaked, but the department was able to identify the leak and use a backup paper for the exam.
Motshekga said it is difficult to establish the extent of the leaks because pupils do not steal question papers but access them on WhatsApp.
She confirmed the Hawks are part of the investigation and more information should be available soon.
