In the north of the capital, about 12 houses flooded in Ga-Rankuwa on Wednesday night.

Tshwane EMS spokesperson, Charles Mabaso, says the flooding was caused by blocked storm drainage pipes in the area.

In the Olievenhoutbosch area, a person was rescued by community members when he was swept away while trying to cross the Rietspruit.

"Apparently, one person was also swept. Police divers and emergency services were activated, they continued with the search until late last night, but the person so far has not been found," says Mabaso.

Mabaso says the search will continue on Thursday morning, even thoguh no one has yet reported a missing person.

He adds a motorist and a passanger had to be rescued when the vehicle they were travelling in, was swept away by water in Rabie Street in Centurion.

Mabaso has warned motorist to avoid low laying areas, particularly around the channel of the Hennops River in the south and the Apies River to the north.
