Optimism that Gautrain strike could soon end
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The protracted wage strike by Gautrain employees is expected to come to an end on Monday.
This comes after the Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa), the United National Transport Union (UNTU) and Gautrain management met on Sunday night where a new wage proposal was made to workers.
Fedusa general-secretary Dennis George says proposals for the wage agreement were concluded and will be presented to the workers.
"We will present the offer to the members, whether they want to accept the offer or whether they want to reject the offer," says George.
He adds should the offer be agreed upon by workers, union leaders will move ahead with signing the wage agreement.
George says a one-year wage offer was put on the table.
"The offer will focus on giving workers wage increases, housing allowance and transport allowance. It will also deal with critical issues such as disclosure of information during negotiations."
Fedusa believes the agreement has the potential to end the strike.
But he cautions that the strike will continue until members agree on the proposed agreement.
