BREAKING: Oscar Pistorius' sentence extended
Updated | By Laila Majiet
Oscar Pistorius's six year sentence has been increased to the minimum sentence for murder.
The former Paralympian has been handed a new sentence of 15 years.
Pistorius will now have to serve 13 years and five months behind bars after already serving a year and seven months.
The Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) set aside the six-year imprisonment sentence on Friday.
It comes after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) approached the SCA asking it to increase Pistorius' sentence.
The NPA argued that the sentence Pistorius was serving for gunning down his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, was "shockingly low".
Pistorius shot and killed Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013.
He claims to have mistaken her for a burglar.
Pistorius was initially convicted of culpable homicide in 2014.
The SCA upgraded his conviction to murder in 2015.
