Outcry after Orania teacher allegedly rapes minor
The whites-only town Orania in the Northern Cape is reeling after a 23-year-old teacher was arrested in connection with the rape of a minor.
The teacher appeared in the Hopetown Magistrates Court on September 24 and was later released on R5 000 bail.
He is facing charges of statutory rape.
Police spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana says it is alleged that the teacher was in a relationship with the 15-year-old girl.
The school was made aware when members from the police’s child protection unit visited the school to investigate a complaint of child molestation.
