Over 1000 arrests during reconciliation weekend

Police in Gauteng have arrested more than 1000 suspects for various crimes during weekend operations.

Police in Gauteng have arrested more than 1000 suspects for various crimes during weekend operations.
The suspects were arrested mainly during road blocks and raids.
The charges range from driving under the influence and possession of cannabis to robbery and rape.
More than half of the suspects were arrested in Soweto and the West Rand. Another 137 were arrested in Ekurhuleni and 369 in Tshwane.
The police Captain Mavela Masondo says intensive police operations will continue throughout the festive season.
"We are all over the show, were are in the malls, we are on the roads to make sure that those that are travelling, the travel safely, " says Masondo.
The suspects are set to appear in various magistrate's courts across Gauteng on Monday.
