Over 1500 Christmas babies born in the country

The National Health Department has on Tuesday confirmed that 1708 babies were born on Christmas Day in the Country.
This compared to 1414 babies that were delivered on Christmas Day in 2022.
Gauteng delivered 387 healthy babies followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 255, Western Cape with 231 , Eastern Cape with 221, Limpopo with 209, North West with 121, Mpumalanga with 161, Free State with 76 and Northern Cape with 47.
Health Department spokesperson Foster Mohale says 1708 babies consisted of 840 boys and 868 girls.
"The Department of Health congratulates the health workers, especially the midwives for successful and safe delivery of these bundles of joy, and wishes all parents, including more than 145 teen mothers all the best throughout parenting journey.
"The department is scaling up human milk banking for survival and healthy growth for babies born to mothers who are unable to breastfeed to ensure no baby is deprived nutritious breastmilk."
