Over 290 GBV cases opened in Tembisa since lockdown

More than 290 cases of gender-based violence were reported in Tembisa, north of Ekurhuleni, since the start of the lockdown.
This was revealed by MEC of Community Safety in Gauteng Faith Mazibuko while responding to questions in the Gauteng legislature on Tuesday morning.
'Proven fact' that cancer contributes to GBV, says Bogopane-Zulu
Bogopane-Zulu made the claim on the side lines during the department's women's month campaign in the Northern Cape. On Friday Bogopane-Zulu visited the province to facilitate a drive offering mobile health services to communities throughout the country. She's since come under fire for her claims, but she maintains it is a proven fact.
Mazibuko said 294 cases were registered from the 16 of March to 31 July.
"About to 127 of those cases related in arrests, 125 made it to the court roll and none have been thrown out of the court.”
Mazibuko told MPLs that she cannot give an update on the number of convictions as court proceedings are still underway.
The MEC also asked MPLs to encourage survivors not to drop cases against perpetrators.
