Over 2m pupils set to return to school in KZN
The KwaZulu-Natal education department is ready to welcome over 2 million pupils back to school.
Premier Sihle Zikalala briefed the media on the province’s latest Covid-19 statistics on Sunday.
Zikalala said 2.8 million pupils would be returning to 6 148 schools across the province.
"With the exception of grade 12, 11, 7 and 6 all other grades will be returning for the first time since March. The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal has thoroughly prepared for the return of the education system.
"All PPEs and other essentials have been procured and delivered to all school. There are only three districts that reported that they will complete their delivery either today or tomorrow morning," added Zikalala.
The premier said the delay is caused by cancellation of certain service providers who could not deliver on time.

Zikalala briefed the media on the latest Covid-19 statistics on Sunday. He said the province has 23 751 confirmed cases, 289 deaths and 6 021 recoveries "A week ago we had 13 984 cases of which 9665 were active, 182 deaths and 4 197 recoveries.
Education MEC Kwazi Mshengu explained that not all pupils would return to school on Monday.
"Tomorrow and Tuesday we are expecting, grade R, grade 1, grade 6, grade 10 and 11. So if you are doing grade 2 don't come tomorrow.”
Mshengu said schools are expected to make use of alternate dates among the grades to ensure social distancing.
