Two suspects arrested on the N1 near Bloemfontein after a drug bust, in which Mandrax tablets worth about R12 million were recovered, will appear in court Wednesday.
Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said after the bust, that acting on a tip-off, the pair were nabbed when their delivery van, which was destined for the Eastern Cape from Gauteng, was stopped and searched just outside Bloemfontein.
Just underneath the loading zone of the vehicle, the Hawks discovered a self-made compartment with nine bags with 20 plastic packets containing mandrax tablets to the value of R12 million.
The 40-year-old driver and his female passenger, 35, were arrested and will face the charge of dealing in drugs when they appear in court.
