Parliament to begin shortlisting candidates for SABC board
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Nearly 400 candidates have applied to serve on the SABC's permanent board.
Parliament is set to begin shortlisting the 363 candidates from Tuesday.
DA MP Phumzile van Damme says the main opposition party will push for the process to be transparent.
The party is also calling for public participation.
Van Damme believes the CVs of all candidates should be uploaded onto Parliament's website for public scrutiny.
The SABC board had been dissolved following the final report by the ad hoc committee into the SABC board's fitness to hold office, which was adopted in the National Assembly in March.
The report followed an inquiry into the ailing board.
The broadcaster recorded a financial loss of R839 million for the last financial year.
